LeadForward
Accelerating leadership judgment through immersive experience.

Context
Organizations invest heavily in developing leaders, yet most development programs evaluate knowledge rather than judgment. Leaders attend workshops, complete assessments, and discuss case studies, but the moments that truly reveal leadership happen when priorities collide, information is incomplete, and every option carries consequences.
LeadForward was designed to close that gap. It is used in organizational settings to surface leadership patterns that inform succession planning, executive coaching, and leadership development. It also serves as the capstone experience in a graduate organizational leadership program, where students analyze their own leadership decisions through established leadership theory.
Traditional simulation experiences can provide valuable insight, but they often require significant facilitation, reach only a small number of participants, and are difficult to scale across an organization.
Challenge
Organizations get remarkably few opportunities to observe leadership judgment before it matters. Promotions, succession decisions, and executive coaching often rely on interviews, performance history, personality assessments, and self-reflection — none of which fully reveal how someone will navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and imperfect information.
The situations that shape leaders happen infrequently, carry real consequences, and offer little room for practice. As a result, organizations often spend years observing leaders before gaining the insight needed to support meaningful development, succession decisions, or executive coaching.
Solution
I designed LeadForward, an immersive leadership experience that compresses years of leadership exposure into a single simulation.
Leaders step into the role of a newly hired executive navigating a complex organizational transformation. Across seven interconnected decision points, they respond to evolving business challenges, balance competing stakeholder priorities, lead organizational change, and make difficult decisions with incomplete information.
Every choice influences the experience. Rather than searching for a perfect answer, participants navigate realistic trade-offs while ten leadership dimensions reveal patterns in judgment, communication, adaptability, stakeholder management, and decision-making.
The simulation isn't designed to test leadership theory. It creates the conditions where leadership judgment becomes visible — providing a foundation for deeper reflection, executive coaching, leadership development, and succession planning.
Business Impact
LeadForward helps organizations:
- Observe how leaders think through complex decisions before those decisions affect the business.
- Accelerate succession planning by surfacing leadership patterns that often take years to emerge.
- Create richer executive coaching conversations grounded in observed decision-making rather than self-assessment alone.
- Give leaders a safe environment to practice judgment before the stakes are real.
- Compress years of leadership learning into a single immersive experience.
- Support leadership development across executive coaching, organizational talent strategies, and graduate education.
Ultimately, LeadForward isn't designed to tell organizations who their best leaders are. It's designed to reveal how leaders think before those decisions shape the future of the business.
